MELZ
A message to artists….
Being a musician as well as an artist, I have always been curious as to what exactly is the more hidden processes of the forms of artistic self expression.
What is creativity? Where does it come from?
Why do we feel the need to express ourselves in this way?
Many years ago, I started researching the nature of various art forms. On one level, we sense the need to express our emotions and feelings. These things can be expressed via dance, music and art. But I noticed that these expressions…especially music and dance seem to have a power that effect and connects people. Music and dance tend to vibrate together and then seem to mysteriously begin to vibrate an audience as well. What is happening there?
This article was originally written for MELZ.

The advanced science of the most basic and super, super small physics of the universe called quantum mechanics has shown that everything is moving…vibrating.
As an analogy …think of the universe with nothing in it as a still and calm lake….
just space. If a stone is thrown into this lake it creates and sends ripples and waves to the far shores…these waves move and vibrate anything that is in the water such as sticks or leaves.

If more stones are thrown, the different ripples and waves run into each other creating more complex waves. These complex ripples and waves are the equivalent to the matter that exists in the universe...such as planets and stars.
The planets, stars, atoms and molecules that exist in this space are actually just clusters of dense vibrations.
There are countless various wave patterns that are emanating from everything in the universe and these patterns mix and interfere with other waves creating more complex wave patterns…stars, planets etc.

But one simple observation is that a stick floating in a still lake does not move. If you throw a stone, it creates a wave that eventually travels to the stick and the stick begins to move with a similar wave pattern. The universe works the same way. Wave patterns effect other wave patterns. Everything becomes connected in this way. And because everything is connected in a sense, we are all one with the universe.
So what is the source of these vibrations? The source of these vibrations is a creative thought.
What does this have to do with music and dance? It is the underlying reason of how music and dance effect other people and why they begin to sing or dance in response as well. The fact that music effects people in such a way is very obvious on the surface, but the actual process of the waves is hidden and invisible to our daily observation.

What this means is that not only are musicians or dancers expressing themselves, their inner feelings, and emotions…but there is a hidden link by which others can feel them too. We must be aware that whatever we express or do, it is affecting others as well. This is not a subtle action. It can be very powerful.
When I was working for Michael Jackson as his musical interpreter, we found out very quickly that we didn’t have to use words to express ideas to each other. For example, the most common way to explain an idea to another would be through words. Like Michael trying to describe a sound to me so I can create it with a synthesizer.
What we have to do is be aware that our actions are reflected to the universe around us. We are not in an isolated bubble only feeling or listening to ourselves. These actions cause effects in our environment and with other people which in turn, cause other effects which then cause other effects, so on and so on.
An understanding of this process can potentially change our environment as well as the planet….and even beyond. We must be aware that the things we express may have a positive result or a negative result. Eventually, these vibrations echo back to their source. If we created good vibrations, then the vibrations coming back will be positive…if we create negative vibrations, we will also see and feel the results of those as well.
Since we are both very sensitive to the vibrations of the universe that I described above, we found out very quickly that we didn’t have to use words. Michael would say “Chris, make me a sound that makes me do this”…..and he would do a dance move and I would know immediately what sound to make…. He was communicating via the vibration of dance to describe to me what vibration of sound he wanted to make him move a particular way. I think this is a highly unusual process because most people are not feeling or listening to the vibrations of the universe. We found that operating in this way was much quicker and our ideas became one. The result was the art became much more pure and it connected to others in a more powerful way.
Just remember, just because you can’t see these wave patterns doesn’t mean they are not there. If we refine our skills, i.e. become better musicians and better dancers, become more aware, we can start to see these once hidden vibrations. They will become more and more clear.
Each one of us has the capacity to make the future a positive one or a negative one. Being aware of the vibrations we create with our art will determine which it will be.
Expression is life and life is expression…it is all vibration…everything is vibration and it is all one.
